Global Direct Seller Sees 100 Percent Availability with Data-Recovery Solution

Amway, a global direct-selling corporation, faced challenges in maximizing data availability and ensuring disaster recovery across its expanding global infrastructure. With over 3 million business owners and 34 terabytes of data, its complex environment had introduced high costs and recovery processes that took hours. To address this, Amway worked with Microsoft Corporation to pilot a solution using Microsoft SQL Server 2014 and Windows Azure.

Microsoft's solution implemented SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups in a hybrid configuration, using both on-premises and Windows Azure replicas. This approach provided Amway with 100 percent uptime during the pilot, reduced failover time to under 10 seconds, and slashed data center recovery time from six person-hours to just 30 seconds. This partnership with Microsoft enabled more cost-effective disaster recovery and the potential for more frequent testing.
