Case Study: Esri achieves scalable real-time GIS and easier BI sharing with Microsoft Corporation Azure

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Esri Case Study

Geospatial Firm Uses the Cloud to Boost Software Scalability and Simplify BI Analysis

Esri, a U.S.-based leader in GIS and spatial analysis software, needed greater scalability for its ArcGIS platform as usage grew worldwide and customers increasingly wanted easier ways to analyze and share BI data. To meet these demands, Esri worked with Microsoft Corporation, using Microsoft Azure and related Microsoft tools to support ArcGIS Online and its broader mapping and analytics offerings.

Microsoft Corporation implemented Azure Cloud Services and Azure SQL Database for ArcGIS Online, along with integrations for Office 2013, SharePoint Server 2013, and Dynamics so users could create and share interactive maps from familiar applications. The result was major scale and flexibility: ArcGIS Online handled a jump from 50 million to 150 million maps during Hurricane Sandy, and Esri reported it could support hundreds of millions of map impressions a day while delivering real-time data and easier self-service analytics.
