Case Study: GEICO achieves faster releases and improved customer satisfaction with Microsoft Corporation and Azure

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the GEICO Case Study

GEICO finds that the cloud is the best policy after seamless modernization and migration

GEICO, one of North America’s largest automobile insurers, needed to modernize its aging mainframe-based sales systems while avoiding business disruption and meeting strict compliance requirements. Working with Microsoft Corporation and partner Applied Information Sciences, GEICO chose Microsoft Azure and related Microsoft tools to replace its COBOL-based infrastructure and support faster releases, better talent reuse, and a more agile development approach.

Microsoft Corporation helped GEICO modernize and migrate 16 Sales subsystems to Azure by rewriting the applications in .NET, using Azure Cloud Services, Azure Virtual Machines, and Application Insights. The result was a major improvement in agility and reliability: release cycles for major updates dropped from six weeks to three, minor changes could be deployed without taking systems down, and GEICO reported better availability, faster time to market, improved customer satisfaction, and quicker recovery capabilities across regions.
