A Microsoft Corporation Case Study
FunRock, a small Swedish mobile game startup, needed a back-end platform that could handle the risk of viral growth without performance bottlenecks. The company chose Microsoft Corporation’s Azure services, including Azure Service Fabric, after early load tests showed its original database-based architecture would struggle with thousands of simultaneous players.
Microsoft Corporation implemented a microservices-based solution on Azure Service Fabric, supported by other services like Azure Storage, Azure Notification Hubs, Azure Functions, and Azure Active Directory. The result was automatic scale-out and scale-down, no need for multiple databases or load balancers, and the ability to test up to 5,000 concurrent players with no hiccups while aiming for tens of thousands. FunRock also gained faster development cycles, with new game versions released at least monthly.
