Sarasota County School District, a K-12 educational institution in Florida, sought to modernize its classrooms to support individualized, student-driven learning and meet new state teaching standards. The district faced the challenge of finding a single device that was not only a tool for consuming information but also for creating it, moving beyond the limitations of other tablets that hindered content creation and didn't integrate well with the existing Windows environment. They partnered with Microsoft Corporation to find a solution.

The solution involved deploying Microsoft Surface 3 and Surface Pro 3 devices running Windows 8.1 and Office 365. These provided a full Windows experience, digital inking capabilities, and access to essential productivity tools. Microsoft's solution enabled students to use a single device for all their work, replacing heavy textbooks and fostering collaboration through OneNote. For teachers, it unlocked new ways to present information and collaborate across the large district. The deployment also streamlined device management and will help accommodate state testing requirements, making a significant impact on student engagement and preparing them with vital twenty-first century skills.
