Case Study: FIS accelerates real-time analytics with Microsoft SQL Server 2016

Preview of the Fidelity National Information Services Case Study

Financial services firm accelerates real-time analytics with SQL Server 2016

Fidelity National Information Services (FIS), a major provider of financial technology solutions, faced the challenge of expanding real-time analytics for its securities lending market data without increasing operational complexity or data-processing overhead. They needed to support a new client dashboard and ensure sub-second query response times on a constantly updating, high-volume dataset, all while running on their existing SQL Server platform.

To meet this challenge, FIS implemented a proof of concept using real-time operational analytics with non-clustered columnstore indexes (NCCI) in Microsoft SQL Server 2016. The Microsoft solution enabled analytics and transaction processing on the same database simultaneously, eliminating the need for new ETL jobs. The results were dramatic, with most queries running 4 to 20 times faster, and some even achieving an 18x performance improvement, all without requiring changes to the database design or involving additional technical teams.
