Case Study: Vattenfall achieves stronger cloud security and governance with Microsoft Corporation

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Vattenfall Case Study

European power company energizes its security and governance with cloud monitoring tools

Vattenfall, the Swedish energy company serving 6.5 million customers across Europe, moved more of its IT estate to Microsoft Azure as part of a cloud-first, fossil-free strategy. As its business units launched their own cloud projects, Vattenfall needed better centralized security, governance, and cost visibility across its growing Azure environment, including new platforms and IoT resources.

Microsoft Corporation, working with Orange Networks, implemented Azure Security Center along with Azure Policy, Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Azure Cost Management, and Azure Advisor to centralize oversight and improve governance. The result was stronger visibility into vulnerabilities, standardized policy enforcement with less scripting, and better cloud spending control; notably, Vattenfall purchased 250 Azure Reserved Virtual Machine Instances based on Microsoft’s cost recommendations, while also improving management reporting and helping the business focus more on value than technology.
