Enhancing banking with cross-platform mobile apps

Crédito Agrícola, a major Portuguese financial institution, sought to provide its enterprise customers with a new mobile banking app. As a Microsoft shop, the bank’s challenge was to develop this solution efficiently, aiming to avoid the high costs and complexity of maintaining separate development teams and codebases for Android, iOS, and Windows platforms.

Partnering with Microsoft and using its Xamarin technology, the bank and its implementation partner Xpand IT created a cross-platform app. By reusing over 70 percent of the code, Microsoft's solution dramatically accelerated development; a prototype was completed in just 10 days and the full enterprise app was finished in three months. This new approach reduced costs, streamlined the development process with a single team, and integrated seamlessly with Microsoft Azure for advanced features, enabling the bank to offer a secure, modern mobile experience to its business users.
