Elastacloud, a London-based data science consultancy, wanted to combine AI, advanced analytics, and machine learning to help improve low-carbon energy production in the UK and reduce costly BSUoS balancing fees for energy providers. To do this, it worked with Microsoft Corporation using Azure Machine Learning and related Azure services to build an AI-powered forecasting web service.

Microsoft Corporation helped Elastacloud implement the BSUoS Forecast service on Azure Kubernetes Service, Azure Functions, Azure Data Lake, Azure DevOps, and Azure SQL Database. The solution delivers forecasts every 30 minutes, requires no virtual machines or infrastructure management, and has boosted time-to-market by more than 40%, while also helping Elastacloud transition from a consultancy to a solutions provider.
