A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the LightSail Case Study

Educational software company brings joy of reading to children worldwide with .NET Core technology

LightSail, an educational software company based in New York City, wanted to expand literacy access for children in underserved communities worldwide, including places with limited internet, electricity, or local schooling. Using Microsoft Corporation’s .NET Core and Azure services, LightSail built its “Literacy-in-a-box” solution to deliver culturally relevant reading content on any browser-enabled device, helping learners read anywhere.

Microsoft Corporation helped LightSail port its platform to .NET Core on Linux and use Azure for secure, scalable data storage and student analytics. The result was a rugged, cross-platform system that runs in extreme conditions on solar power or batteries, while supporting 190 features and tracking more than 100 student data points. LightSail also reported that Microsoft’s support helped avoid potentially millions of dollars in intellectual property migration costs.
