Case Study: Powel reduces water loss with Microsoft Azure IoT Hub and Azure Machine Learning

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Powel Case Study

Developers digitize water, address IoT solutions with Azure IoT Hub and Azure Machine Learning

Microsoft worked with Powel, a medium-sized Norwegian software company in the power and utilities industry, to address the challenge of significant water loss in municipal distribution networks. Powel needed to find a way to analyze existing sensor data to establish a baseline for normal water flow and then monitor for new leaks in real-time.

The solution utilized Azure IoT Hub to securely ingest and manage real-time sensor data and Azure Machine Learning to build a predictive model of water consumption. By analyzing this data with Power BI for insights, Powel created its Water Alert solution. This allows municipal water systems to self-monitor and instantly report abnormal status, saving both money and a vital natural resource by quickly identifying new leaks. Microsoft's cloud services enabled Powel to transformUtilities' historical data into actionable intelligence.
