Descartes Systems Group, a logistics and supply chain software provider, needed greater flexibility and scalability for its Descartes MacroPoint real-time visibility platform as customer demand grew and seasonal peaks strained resources. To better support its 24/7, high-transaction trucking visibility service, the company turned to Microsoft Corporation and Azure, including Azure SQL Database Managed Instance and Azure Service Fabric.

Microsoft Corporation helped Descartes migrate MacroPoint to Azure with minimal disruption, using database replication and a parallel run to enable a smooth cutover in less than two hours of downtime. The move improved performance across the application, services, and website, while also making it easy to scale resources up or down in minutes; the company has since expanded into additional Azure projects and Azure Machine Learning initiatives.
