Case Study: City and County of Denver achieves smarter city insights and safer mobility with Microsoft Azure

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the City and County of Denver Case Study

Denver’s pioneering Smart City program improves public safety, mobility, and health

The City and County of Denver faced the challenge of unifying data from many siloed city systems—such as traffic lights, air quality sensors, and connected vehicles—to improve mobility, safety, and public health for a fast-growing city. Working with Microsoft Corporation and its Azure cloud services, Denver set out to build a smarter, more connected city data platform.

Microsoft Corporation helped Denver implement an Azure-based Enterprise Data Management system using Azure Data Lake Store, Azure IoT Hub, and Power BI. The solution enabled real-time analytics and cut travel-time reporting from 45 minutes to three hours down to just five seconds, while also supporting safer intersections, better emergency vehicle prioritization, and hyperlocal air quality reporting for schools.
