DEIF Powers up its customers’ Performance with Azure Empowered Industrial Internet of Things

DEIF, a global leader in control solutions for decentralized power production, needed real-time monitoring for its diesel generator controllers used in mission-critical applications such as ships, offshore stations, and rental power fleets. Breakdowns could cause costly downtime, repair delays, and billing disputes for customers. Microsoft Corporation, using Azure IoT platform services and the Precimetrix AssetWise solution, helped DEIF build an Industrial Internet of Things extension called Insight.

Microsoft Corporation implemented a cloud-based platform using Azure Functions, Service Bus, Azure IoT Hub, Event Hubs, Stream Analytics, App Service, SQL Azure, Table Storage, and Blob Storage to remotely monitor and control about 40,000 diesel generators, processing roughly 34 million messages per month. The solution improved uptime, reduced breakdowns and downtime costs, enabled better power availability tracking for rental customers, supported product design improvements from usage data, and created a new premium revenue stream for DEIF.
