Data Services Firm Gains Real-Time Access to Product Data with In-Memory Technology

Edgenet, a data services firm, needed to provide its retail and manufacturing customers with real-time, accurate product data. Their challenge was that updating their Ezeeguides application database caused locking conflicts between read and write processes, forcing them to use a slow staging process that took a day to prepare information. They turned to Microsoft Corporation for a solution using SQL Server 2014's in-memory OLTP technology.

By implementing Microsoft's in-memory OLTP solution, Edgenet eliminated database locking, allowing read and write activities to occur simultaneously on the same database. This provided real-time data access, improved throughput by seven times, and enabled the direct loading of data without a staging process. The results significantly enhanced data accuracy for end consumers and empowered Edgenet's own business users with self-service BI tools for faster insights.
