Danske Fragtmaend Innovates with SQL Server on Storage Replica

Danske Fragtmænd, a major Danish transport and logistics company, required a high-performance data solution to manage its constant stream of logistics and GPS information. Their existing IBM AS/400 system was not suited for 24/7 operations and nightly batch runs were becoming a bottleneck. They partnered with Microsoft to implement a solution built on SQL Server and Windows Server to modernize their infrastructure and implement a robust disaster recovery strategy.

Microsoft's solution involved implementing SQL Server 2016 on a high-speed, all-flash storage infrastructure, which drastically increased I/O performance and uptime. This was paired with Windows Server 2016's Storage Replica feature to enable synchronous, zero-data-loss replication across datacenters for full disaster recovery. The results were exceptional, with one BI query running 9,521 times faster. This efficiency allowed Danske Fragtmænd to significantly increase delivery volume while reducing its fleet from 200 to 44 trucking partners, lowering costs and environmental impact.
