Legacy Health, a large nonprofit community healthcare provider in the Portland, Oregon area, needed to keep its Epic electronic medical record system always available despite risks such as user error, equipment failure, and major natural disasters. To strengthen reliability and support patient care, the company turned to Microsoft Corporation and Microsoft Azure for disaster recovery and a modern hybrid environment.

Microsoft Corporation helped Legacy Health implement a fully redundant live hybrid and DR setup using Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Storage, Azure Backup, and Azure SQL Database. The migration moved more than 22 terabytes of data and 100 servers in 11 months, ahead of schedule, while improving EMR availability, supporting 7,700 concurrent users, and cutting disaster recovery operating costs by almost 65 percent.
