Coats, the global industrial thread manufacturer, needed to improve factory productivity while reducing environmental risk as labor and manufacturing costs rose. To address these challenges, Coats worked with Microsoft Corporation and used Azure IoT solutions, including Azure IoT Edge, Azure Stream Analytics, and Power BI, to modernize its manufacturing and environmental monitoring operations.

Microsoft Corporation helped Coats deploy IoT sensors and dashboards that provide near real-time visibility into machine performance and compliance data. The solution compressed data at the edge, enabled faster issue detection, and supported environmental alerts across 12 factories. Coats is on track toward an 8% productivity increase, reduced breakage-related labor, and implemented the system in just five months with a small team.
