Case Study: Coats achieves faster performance and lower costs with Microsoft Corporation Azure and SAP HANA

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Coats Case Study

Coats sews up business benefits with SAP HANA on Azure and a cloud-based infrastructure

Coats, the global industrial thread manufacturer, needed to modernize an aging IT environment that was slowing collaboration, reporting, and production decisions across its worldwide operations. With help from Microsoft Corporation and its Azure cloud platform, Coats set out to replace fragmented datacenters, improve SAP performance, and support a growing online customer ordering model.

Microsoft Corporation, working with partner Brillio, moved Coats’s datacenters to Azure and migrated its production database from Oracle to SAP HANA on Azure using Azure ExpressRoute and Azure Virtual Machines. The results were significant: report generation dropped from hours to minutes, rush orders could be added the same day instead of waiting 24 to 48 hours, SAP run costs fell from about $9,000 a day to roughly $1,000, and execution efficiency improved by up to 30 percent.
