A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Zilveren Kruis Case Study

Cloud migration helps Zilveren Kruis cut infrastructure costs by more than 50% for mission-critical application

Zilveren Kruis, one of the Netherlands’ largest health insurance companies, faced a costly infrastructure challenge with its online premium calculator, which draws about 120,000 daily users during the November–December peak but is mostly idle the rest of the year. The company was paying for fixed server capacity it didn’t need for most of the year, so it worked with Microsoft Corporation and WORTELL to find a more scalable, cost-effective hosting approach using Microsoft Azure.

Microsoft Corporation helped Zilveren Kruis migrate the calculator to Azure and adapt it for serverless services, including Azure AutoScale and Azure DevOps for automated testing and deployment. The result was smoother performance during peak season, slightly faster page loads, and infrastructure cost savings that exceeded 50% on a full-year basis, while also reducing manual workload for IT staff and improving operational insight.
