Broward School District energizes teaching and learning with IT platform transition

Broward County Public Schools, a large school district in Florida, faced the challenge of modernizing its aging IT infrastructure to provide more personalized learning for its students. The district needed to increase its computer-to-student ratio, refresh outdated devices, and meet new state online testing mandates, all while ensuring the technology could support various educational and vocational software. To address this, they partnered with Microsoft Corporation and adopted the Windows 10 operating system as their primary platform.

The solution from Microsoft involved upgrading approximately 130,000 devices to Windows 10 and implementing the Microsoft Office 365 suite for cloud productivity and collaboration. This provided students and teachers with advanced tools like Windows Ink for hands-on learning and OneDrive for co-authoring documents. The results were a more robust and modern IT environment that fostered collaboration beyond the classroom. Microsoft's technology also supported professional development, with 366 teachers achieving Microsoft Innovative Educator certification, and a student certification program saw 68 of 71 freshmen become Microsoft Office Specialists, equipping them with valuable professional skills.
