OSIsoft, a global software company that provides data infrastructure for industrial sectors, sought to help its customers move beyond descriptive analytics and unlock the value of their Industrial IoT data with predictive and prescriptive capabilities. The challenge was the immense difficulty of preparing vast amounts of operational sensor data for advanced analytics, a process that traditionally took data scientists months to complete, creating a barrier to gaining future-looking business intelligence.

Microsoft provided the solution through a deep integration of its analytics products. OSIsoft built its new PI Integrator platform to cleanse and shape data, which was then processed using Microsoft SQL Server 2016 R Services and Azure Machine Learning for predictive analytics. This enabled customers like Cemex to slash data preparation time from 744 hours to just 5 minutes. The Microsoft solution provided powerful, on-premises, and hybrid analytics capabilities, closing the gap between operational and information technology and allowing customers to rapidly deploy advanced analytics projects for significant cost savings and operational improvements.
