BP explores Azure AI to boost safety, increase efficiency, and drive business success

BP, also known as British Petroleum, is undertaking a company-wide digital transformation to improve safety, efficiency, and decision-making across its energy operations. To support this effort, BP turned to Microsoft Corporation’s Azure and Azure Machine Learning services to help scientists analyze reservoir data and reduce bias in forecasting hydrocarbon recovery.

Microsoft Corporation implemented Azure Machine Learning with automated machine learning capabilities to speed up model building, automate feature engineering, algorithm selection, and hyperparameter tuning, and strengthen governance through model lifecycle management. The result was a dramatic reduction in model development time from weeks or months to days, better data quality, and more accurate reservoir forecasts that improved trust across the business and supported faster commercial decisions.
