Case Study: BMW Technology Corporation achieves scalable driver mobility with Microsoft Corporation Azure Service Fabric

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the BMW Technology Corporation Case Study

BMW enables driver mobility via Azure Service Fabric

BMW Technology Corporation needed a way to power its BMW Connected mobile app and Open Mobility Cloud on Microsoft Azure while scaling to millions of drivers. The challenge was to combine machine-learned driver intent, real-time location data, and traffic conditions in a system that could stay reliable, secure, and responsive despite mobile client limitations.

Microsoft Corporation helped BMW implement Azure Service Fabric, including the actor model, Azure Event Hubs, and Azure Notification Hubs, to manage driver profiles, trip predictions, location streams, and departure reminders. The solution enabled scalable, resilient microservices with automatic replication, failover, and no-downtime rolling upgrades, while offloading client-side processing to the cloud and supporting encrypted data at rest and disaster recovery across Azure regions.
