A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the M.P. Birla Group Case Study

Birla Corporation migrates SAP workloads to Azure, trims costs by 60 percent

M.P. Birla Group’s cement division, Birla Corporation, needed to modernize its mission-critical SAP environment to gain more scalability and innovation capacity while avoiding downtime and high costs. Its existing SAP workloads were running on Oracle Solaris in a private cloud, limiting flexibility for a large manufacturing operation that depends on always-on ERP systems. Microsoft Corporation, using Azure, was chosen to help address this challenge.

Microsoft Corporation, together with partner MSRCosmos LLC, migrated and replatformed Birla Corporation’s SAP production systems from Solaris to Linux on Microsoft Azure, including an Oracle upgrade and multiple migration tests to reduce risk. The result was a seamless go-live with minimal downtime, better performance and reliability, and a 60% reduction in costs. The move also positioned the company to accelerate future innovation with Azure data and AI services.
