Belgian municipality saves time and enhances service to citizens through innovative use of the cloud

The City of Musson, a municipality in Belgium, was struggling with an inefficient and time-consuming process for collecting water meter data and issuing customer invoices. To address this challenge, they partnered with Microsoft Corporation and its local partner, Opinum, to implement a solution leveraging Microsoft Azure and a data management toolbox.

Using the Microsoft Azure cloud, Opinum built a system that integrates with smart water meters. City employees now collect data digitally via Windows tablets, which is then automatically sent to the invoicing system. This solution from Microsoft Corporation delivered significant time savings, reduced billing errors, and enabled faster leak detection. The municipality anticipates a full financial payback within a year and plans to expand the system to other utilities.
