Case Study: Barton Systems achieves faster, more scalable storage with Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Barton Systems Case Study

Belgian infrastructure provider uses Storage Spaces Direct to create blazingly fast storage solution

Barton Systems, a Belgian IT services provider and subsidiary of the Cronos Group, faced challenges with the high cost and poor scalability of traditional storage area networks (SANs) for its customers. They sought a higher-performance, lower-cost, and more easily managed storage solution to meet expanding customer data needs without the hefty price tag of proprietary hardware.

Using the Storage Spaces Direct feature in Windows Server 2016 from Microsoft Corporation, Barton Systems built a turnkey, software-defined storage solution. This solution from Microsoft increased storage speeds by more than ten times the IOPS and eight times the throughput while significantly reducing costs. The resulting product, Barton, is economical to scale, incredibly easy to manage with a custom interface, and offers rich disaster recovery options through integration with other Microsoft services like Azure.
