A Microsoft Corporation Case Study
The City of Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve, a Belgian municipality, faced the challenge of manually managing vast amounts of energy consumption data from its buildings, a process that was time-consuming, error-prone, and a barrier to achieving its long-term carbon-neutrality goals. To address this, the city partnered with Microsoft and its partner Opinum to implement the Opisense energy monitoring solution, a cloud-based platform built on Microsoft Azure.
The solution implemented by Microsoft and Opinum automated data collection and analysis, providing intuitive dashboards and reports. This resulted in an 80% reduction in energy accounting time and a 25-31% decrease in energy usage across five municipal buildings, saving the equivalent annual power consumption of 66 houses and significantly advancing the city's sustainability objectives.
