A Microsoft Corporation Case Study
Bar Ilan University, a large higher education institution in Israel, faced the challenge of running a massive, Linux-based crypto-analysis experiment that required processing 128,000 requests per second for two weeks. Their own data center lacked the practical capacity for the estimated 5,000 cores needed, leading them to seek a high-performance cloud solution from Microsoft.
The solution was implemented using Microsoft Azure, specifically the Azure Batch service to run Linux virtual machines. This allowed researchers to execute their applications in parallel at a massive scale without having to manually manage the underlying HPC infrastructure. Microsoft Azure provided the consistent high performance and market-leading Linux capabilities required, resulting in the successful and efficient completion of the two-week experiment.
