Azure powers the Internet of Oysters

The Yield, an Australian ag-tech company, faced the challenge of helping oyster farmers avoid costly, often unnecessary harvest closures caused by uncertain water-quality conditions and heavy rainfall. Working with Microsoft Corporation, The Yield used Azure to give growers and regulators more accurate, real-time insights for the oyster industry.

Microsoft Corporation’s Azure IoT Hub, Azure Machine Learning, and cloud services were used to combine in-estuary sensor data with weather information into dashboards and predictive models. The solution improved decision-making around harvest timing, salinity, temperature, tide, and weather, helping reduce unwarranted closures and potentially saving farmers up to $120,000 per day in lost revenue.
