GEP, a provider of procurement software and services, faced significant challenges supporting its cloud-based platform, SMART by GEP, with its own on-premises datacenters. The required infrastructure investments were steep, and regulatory requirements in other countries made global expansion daunting. The solution involved building SMART by GEP from the ground up on Microsoft Azure, utilizing a wide array of PaaS services like Azure SQL Database, Azure Storage, and Azure Service Bus. This move eliminated infrastructure management tasks, provided global datacenters to meet regulatory needs, and enabled rapid scaling. As a result, GEP achieved greater efficiency and global reach without expanding its IT staff for over four years, allowing the company to focus resources entirely on software development and customer value.
