A Microsoft Corporation Case Study
Axia, a Canadian media and telecommunications company, wanted to make smarter decisions about which rural Alberta communities to serve first with its fiber-based high-speed Internet. The challenge was complex: choosing the best markets required balancing economic, demographic, and infrastructure factors, while each community build could take up to three years and represent a major investment. Axia used Microsoft Power BI as part of its Project Nominate initiative to improve market selection and decision-making.
Microsoft Corporation, working with Missing Link Analytics, helped Axia build an integrated analytics solution that combined public and proprietary data into intuitive Power BI dashboards and visualizations. The result was faster, more confident market decisions: Axia moved from identifying 11 communities over many years to nominating 7 communities in a single year, with stronger internal consensus and clearer justification for each choice.
