AVR delivers new benefits to potato farmers with precision agriculture

AVR, a Belgium-based global manufacturer of potato harvesting and planting machinery, wanted to move beyond mechanical optimization and build a data-driven agriculture offering. Working with Microsoft Corporation and Eurotech, the company used Azure and Azure IoT Hub to create an easy-to-use, secure IoT solution for farmers, without needing to develop all the expertise in-house.

Microsoft Corporation helped AVR connect its machines to the cloud so farmers could view field heatmaps and track performance down to the centimeter through AVR Connect. The solution improved yield insights, helped reduce fertilization costs and waste, and was designed to boost yields by at least 10%, which could mean more than €100,000 in added revenue per season for a 300-hectare farm.
