Auto retailer transforms business processes and creates opportunity with custom app

DriveTime, a U.S. auto retailer with more than 140 dealerships, needed a better way to buy used cars at fast-moving public auctions. Its buyers had been relying on manual, paper-based notes and experience-driven judgment, creating limited visibility and inefficiency. To solve this, DriveTime used Microsoft Corporation’s PowerApps and Azure SQL Database to build the Online Buyer web app.

Microsoft Corporation helped DriveTime implement a low-code, data-driven auction buying process that connected desktop users, mobile inspectors, and multiple data sources in real time. The new app streamlined workflows, improved communication, and turned buyer intuition into a repeatable process. DriveTime reported that buyers could purchase three times more vehicles than in person, and the company estimated that reducing reconditioning costs by just $10 per vehicle could save $1.6 million annually.
