Altair Engineering democratizes HPC access using the cloud

Altair Engineering, a manufacturing software company, needed a way to make its HyperWorks and Inspire engineering applications available to more users without requiring expensive on-premises workstations or HPC infrastructure. By moving its Unlimited platform to Microsoft Azure, Altair aimed to deliver affordable, scalable cloud-based high-performance computing to help engineers collaborate and run complex simulations more easily.

Microsoft Corporation implemented Azure Virtual Machines and Azure Kubernetes Service to power Inspire Unlimited, with GPU-backed VMs for interactive performance and Kubernetes for collaboration and database services. The result was a browser-based experience that eliminated the need for costly engineering hardware, enabled on-demand scaling for up to large teams of users, and helped Altair expand access to its software while improving collaboration and customer trust in the cloud.
