Alder Hey Children’s Hospital plans to take holograms into the operating theatre

Alder Hey Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, one of the UK’s largest children’s hospitals, needed a better way for clinicians to collaborate and access patient information across the hospital and during surgery. Working with Microsoft Corporation and partner Black Marble, the hospital explored using HoloLens and Surface Hub to bring scans, notes, and medical images into the operating theatre and meeting rooms.

Microsoft Corporation helped Alder Hey implement mixed reality and large-screen collaboration tools through a custom app built by Black Marble. The solution lets teams share and annotate patient data on Surface Hub and view real-time medical images and notes hands-free with HoloLens, helping surgeons make faster decisions and potentially improve patient outcomes.
