Case Study: Ajilius achieves faster development and 30% lower hosting costs with Microsoft Corporation SQL Server on Linux

A Microsoft Corporation Case Study

Preview of the Ajilius Case Study

Ajilius finds sweet spot between open source affordability and enterprise-grade features

Ajilius, an Australian startup that provides a cloud-native data-warehouse-automation solution, needed a database platform that was affordable but still delivered enterprise-grade capabilities. The company had been using PostgreSQL for internal development, demo, and training environments, but it faced challenges with availability, upgrades, performance, and BI tool compatibility. Microsoft Corporation’s SQL Server on Linux, part of Microsoft SQL Server 2017, offered a simpler, more scalable alternative for Ajilius.

Microsoft Corporation implemented SQL Server on Linux for Ajilius, and the migration from PostgreSQL took just half a day. The new platform sped up development, made upgrades easier, and improved reliability, while columnstore delivered more than 40 percent better performance in a test case and cut disk usage to less than half. Ajilius also reduced hosting expenses by more than 30 percent, gained easier administration and security features, and was able to support both Windows and Linux environments with the same code base.
