After Hurricane Maria, Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico guarantees academic continuity with the cloud

The Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico, the largest private engineering school serving the Hispanic population in the United States and its territories, faced a critical challenge to its academic continuity after Hurricane Maria devastated the island's infrastructure. Microsoft Corporation, with its Microsoft Azure cloud services, was engaged to help protect the university's data and ensure its systems could remain operational despite the widespread power and communication outages.

Microsoft, alongside a local partner, rapidly implemented a solution using Microsoft Azure Disaster Recovery. This allowed the university to migrate its domain and crucial services to the cloud. As a result, the institution's systems were back online just 36 hours after the hurricane hit, guaranteeing the continuity of its online courses. University leadership stated that without the Microsoft cloud solution, the outage could have lasted 30 days instead, highlighting the critical role the technology played in their recovery.
