A Microsoft Corporation Case Study
Nexon, a South Korean online gaming company, faced challenges in predicting server demand and managing system resources due to the rapid growth and shortening lifecycles of mobile games. While needing cloud agility, public cloud solutions presented obstacles in cost and, critically, response speeds, which are measured in milliseconds for online gaming. To solve this, Nexon worked with Microsoft to establish a private cloud using Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V and Microsoft System Center.
The Microsoft solution allowed Nexon to process data with substantially fewer resources than physical servers, dramatically reducing operating costs to a fifth of previous levels. The performance was on par with physical servers, ensuring no loss of speed, and system stability was exceptional at over 99.99%. Using Microsoft System Center for integrated management provided comprehensive oversight of their entire environment and automated resource provisioning for developers, combining the convenience of the public cloud with the cost and performance benefits of a private infrastructure.
