Abiomed redefines connected healthcare with remote patient viewing

Abiomed, a global medical device manufacturer known for the Impella heart pump, needed a better way to support the growing number of high-risk cardiac patients using its devices. Its original on-premises setup could only be adjusted in person, limiting remote access for physicians and Abiomed’s clinical support teams. To improve patient care, Abiomed turned to Microsoft Corporation and Azure.

Microsoft Corporation helped Abiomed launch Impella Connect, an Azure-based remote viewing solution that lets field teams, CSC staff, and physicians see real-time device data from mobile devices. The result was faster, more accurate support, better bedside decision-making, and stronger monitoring of thousands of devices worldwide, with Azure also helping support HIPAA/security compliance and scalable global data management.
