2GIS, the large Russian business listings and map service, wanted to add a new video advertising option to its existing text and image ads, but needed to do it quickly, at global scale, and in an open-source environment. Working with Microsoft Corporation’s ASP.NET Core and .NET Core, the company set out to build the service in just two months while ensuring compatibility with Linux, Kubernetes, and its mixed development toolset.

Microsoft Corporation helped 2GIS implement the video-ad platform using ASP.NET Core Web API, Docker containers, and Kubernetes across three datacenters. The result went live in April 2017 and quickly began generating about USD 17,000 per month, with up to 2,800 daily views and peak traffic of 50 requests per second, all delivered by a two-person team.
