Zion China uses Azure IoT, Stream Analytics, and Machine Learning to evolve its Intelligent Diabetes Management solution

Zion China is a Beijing-based mobile healthcare and telemedicine provider focused on helping China’s roughly 130 million people with diabetes manage the disease. Its Intelligent Diabetes Management solution collects high-frequency patient data (more than 3,000 glucose readings per patient every seven days, plus diet, exercise, medication and other inputs), and as the installation base grew the company faced scalability, real-time processing, multi-device presentation and secure long-term storage challenges—doctors previously spent hours manually analyzing disparate on-premises and device data.

Working with Microsoft, Zion re-architected the platform on Azure using IoT Hub for secure, real-time device ingestion, Stream Analytics to process streams into SQL Database, Azure Machine Learning for proactive glucose predictions, Transparent Data Encryption for data protection, and Power BI for multi-device visualization. The new solution delivers scalable, real-time analytics and predictions, stronger security for persisted data, faster clinician insights, and a more agile, cost-effective platform that Zion is now expanding into top hospitals and healthcare organizations.
