Yomiuri Shimbun, Japan’s leading newspaper, runs yomiDr, a medical and health information site that had become outdated and saw monthly pageviews drop to 2.3 million. Because medical information is critical during disasters, the team needed smartphone compatibility, stronger security, and a scalable disaster-recovery solution to handle unpredictable access spikes and to get back online within a day if Tokyo servers were damaged.

The company migrated to Microsoft Azure, deploying WordPress on KUSANAGI for Microsoft Azure (via Prime Strategy) and sending regular backups to western Japan. As a result, yomiDr now handles 30 million page views per month, can be recovered within one hour after an outage, reduced site management time by over 84%, cut operating costs in half, and sped up content updates (from about 30 minutes to 5 minutes per article).
