A Microsoft Azure Case Study
SnelStart is a Dutch provider of financial and business-management software for SMBs (about 55,000 customers, 110 employees) that faced limits of a legacy desktop delivery model: costly packaging and shipping, slow and inconsistent updates, heavy multi-version support, and increasing regulatory and customer demands that required faster innovation and more automation.
SnelStart replatformed to a SaaS model on Azure SQL Database, using elastic database pools, automated C# management, and an API layer to isolate customer data, streamline deployments, and integrate third-party services. The move removed infrastructure overhead, enabled near-continuous updates and better disaster recovery, and was highly scalable—growing deployments from roughly 5,500 to over 12,000 databases in months and adding about 1,000 new Azure SQL Databases per month while keeping operational costs and staff small.
