A Microsoft Azure Case Study
UniKey, an Orlando startup founded in 2010, developed a virtual-key access-control platform to replace physical keys and enable manufacturers to bring smart locks to market faster. Faced with the need for a scalable, flexible infrastructure that could support global partners, rapid product launches, and growing data and authentication requirements, the company sought a cloud-based solution to accelerate development and production.
Working with Nebbia Technology on Microsoft Azure, UniKey built an end-to-end platform using PaaS, virtual machines, open-source components, and Azure Machine Learning/Cognitive Services to support microservices, analytics, and secure authentication. The platform sped time-to-market from as long as two years to six–nine months, powered products like Kwikset’s Kēvo, handled roughly 150 million transactions, and helped drive 500% year-over-year revenue growth while expanding the partner base from two to nine and entering international markets.
