Weka Smart Fridge improves vaccine management so more people can be protected against diseases

Weka Health Solutions, a Boston-based startup, developed the Smart Fridge to help clinicians safely store and manage vaccines but faced challenges around precise temperature control, automated inventory tracking, scalable remote monitoring across global locations, and reliable operation where power and connectivity are unreliable.

Weka partnered with Microsoft technologies and partners to build a solution using Windows 10 Surface kiosks, Raspberry Pi sensors, Azure IoT Hub, Stream Analytics, SQL/DocumentDB/Blob storage, and Dynamics CRM Online with microservices and automated provisioning. The system provides real-time telemetry, alerts, and inventory updates, deploys a new unit in about 15 minutes, reduces vaccine spoilage and administrative costs, supports offline and battery/solar operation, and improves supply-chain visibility to help protect more patients.
