A Microsoft Azure Case Study
Medical Teams International, a nonprofit delivering health care in Ugandan refugee settlements, faced an overwhelming paper-based reporting system as it expanded from 22 to 40 clinics serving more than 1 million patients a year. Clinicians dealt with 77 UNHCR forms, slow monthly aggregation, high error rates and delayed outbreak detection—making it difficult to track patient identities, manage limited supplies, and respond quickly to diseases like malaria and cholera.
Partnering with Cambia Health Solutions and using Microsoft Azure, the teams deployed a tablet-based mobile app, automated key forms, and implemented Power BI dashboards and alerting to centralize data in the cloud. The result: data errors fell by 90%, untested malaria diagnoses dropped from over 50% to below 5%, outbreaks can be seen in days instead of months, clerical workload was dramatically reduced, and the system now scales to support many more clinics and millions of records.
