A Microsoft Azure Case Study
Marquette University, a private Jesuit institution in Milwaukee with about 11,800 students and 1,100 employees, needed a stronger, budget-friendly disaster recovery plan. Its existing failover setup protected individual workloads but required a time‑consuming “scramble” to recover an entire data center, and commercial DR products were too costly for the small IT staff.
By upgrading to Windows Server 2012 R2 and System Center 2012 R2 and pairing Hyper‑V Replica with Azure Site Recovery, Marquette built an automated, multisite DR solution (deployed on two HP ProLiant clusters with Microsoft Services help). The university can now orchestrate recoveries and restore workloads in minutes instead of days, using its existing infrastructure under the Microsoft Campus Agreement and avoiding expensive third‑party tools.
