Turning digital imagery into maps faster with Azure

CycloMedia, a Netherlands–based geographic data company, captures high‑resolution 360° street imagery (Cycloramas) and supplies mapping products to governments and businesses. The business faced a data challenge: it stored about a petabyte of imagery (growing ~500 TB/year), had moved to HD capture, and was constrained by a local hosting provider whose long contracts and slow scaling blocked CycloMedia’s global growth and timely processing needs.

CycloMedia migrated its storage and processing to Microsoft Azure for its strong PaaS capabilities, completing the transition in about six months with no customer disruption. The move cut hosting costs by roughly 40%, made processing and delivery scalable on demand, enabled customers to access imagery via a browser, and paved the way to process raw data in the cloud from remote locations for faster time to market.
