A Microsoft Azure Case Study
Lobster Ink is a Geneva‑based leader in hospitality training that delivers high‑definition, video‑first courses to more than 10,000 customers and 100,000 learners a month across 120 countries. The company’s original PHP/AWS platform wasn’t designed to store or stream terabytes of video, leading to fragmented services, costly workarounds, scaling limits, security worries, and difficulty meeting large enterprise and regional requirements (for example, reliable delivery in China).
Lobster Ink re‑architected its platform on Microsoft Azure PaaS—rewriting APIs in ASP.NET and adopting Azure App Service, Media Services, CDN, SQL Database, and Storage—enabling single‑format video workflows, device‑agnostic playback, stronger built‑in security, and multi‑tenant enterprise features. The move cut operational complexity and costs, accelerated Dev/Ops delivery, unlocked reliable global distribution (including China), and supported rapid growth: thousands of lessons (10,000+), 30–40% annual content growth, expansion into new markets and languages, and plans to significantly increase users and revenue.
